The Boise Fall Itinerary

Boise in autumn is pure magic. Here are our must-dos.

Gettin’ around town tip: Easily rent a bike downtown at options like George’s Cycles or Idaho Mountain Touring, or rent a car for some day trip explorations.

Spooooky Stuff

Horror fanatics and adrenaline chasers, we’ve got you covered.

  • Old Idaho Penitentiary: Known as one of the most haunted places in Idaho, go to a Friday Fright Night (for all ages!) and catch a glimpse of what keeps paranormal investigators and enthusiasts coming to our penitentiary.
  • Halloween flicks: Catch a scary movie at The Egyptian Theatre, The Flicks, or the underground bar, Voodoo Cellar.
  • Haunted houses: And haunted corn mazes. Walk through one of our haunted houses, like The Haunted World or Requiem Haunted House… if you dare.
  • Haunted trolley tours: Yeah, we’ve got some ghosts hangin’ around town too. Boise Trolley Tours offers special ghost tours every year.

Farms & Foliage (for the Faint of Heart

Nothing scary to see here. Unless, of course, beautiful vistas and hikes framed by hues of orange and red give you the heebie jeebies.

  • Hiking trails: Peep some autumn leaves at Camel’s Back Park or Bogus Basin—the perfect fall hikes. Walk the mile-long Camel’s Back Loop, or if you’re up for a challenge, traverse the 11-mile local-favorite Stack Rock trail in the Bogus Basin Recreational Area. Don’t forget to wear layers and good walking shoes!
  • Fall activity farms: Just 30 minutes from downtown Boise in Kuna, find corn mazes, u-pick flower fields, hayrides, tasty food at Lowe Family Homestead—what’s more fall than that? And if you still need that fall farm fix, take the kiddos out to the straw maze at Shindig Farms in Nampa, pick fresh peaches at The Berry Ranch, or jump in the corn pit at Ten Mile Farms in Meridian.

Fall Festivals

Who doesn’t love a good festival?! Luckily for you, we’ve got plenty on the roster this fall.

  • Oktoberfest: Enjoy one of many lederhosen and dirndl-themed celebrations in Boise!
  • Fall Harvest Days: The Idaho Bo(o)tanical Gardens gets a makeover every October. Listen to live music, explore our local food trucks and meander through fall gardens decorated with scarecrows on select nights.
  • Ciderfest: Not into beer? Don’t fear! In the heart of downtown Boise, taste crisp, regional Northwestern ciders at the Idaho Cider Fest.
