Key Industries in Boise Bring New Amenities to Region

Boise is the Capital city of Idaho, nestled at the base of the Boise foothills with a river flowing opposite. The bustling Downtown has a small-town feel with all the amenities that key industries have brought to the region. As one of the fastest-growing regions in America, services are continually being added. Amenities like a booming restaurant, brewery, and wine scene, and additional nonstop destinations at the Boise Airport continue to add value to the region. The airport is just four miles from downtown and offers nonstop service to and from 28 destinations – recently adding Atlanta, Austin, Burbank, New York City, and Nashville to the list in the last year.

It might not be a surprise, but food processing and agribusiness continue to be one of the largest industries in the state. But, while potatoes are usually what comes to mind when thinking of Idaho, there’s so much more – Boise is home to some of the nation’s leading food suppliers, like J.R. Simplot Co., Albertsons, GoGo squeeZ, and Agri Beef Co.

Along with agriculture, manufacturing and technology are also key industries to Boise. An interesting fact: The concentration of technology workers in the Boise Metro is higher than the national average. Boise has been home base for companies like Micron and Hewlett-Packard for many years, but more recently, companies like Clearwater Analytics, Cradlepoint, Kount, QuickBooks Time Tracking, and AppDetex have seen the value in making Boise home. Not long ago, Meta announced that Idaho’s first data center will be built just south of the city in Kuna.

In all industries, the entrepreneurial spirit runs deep in Boise. There is support for collaboration and incubation of startups with resources like Trailhead and the Idaho Small Business Development Center. This collaborative environment also fosters a helping hand for events and meetings being hosted in the city – whether it’s connecting planners to key players in the focused industry or providing epic off-site locations for tours or meetups.
