Boise one of three domestic destinations named to the prestigious, global list of top travel destinations
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOISE, Idaho, Nov. 16, 2022 – Boise is one of just three domestic destinations included on global travel authority, Lonely Planet’s, top 30 destinations to visit in 2023.
Lonely Planet’s annual marquee moment celebrates its expert predictions for where to go in the year ahead. Best in Travel 2023 in Lonely Planet’s 18th annual collection of the world’s hottest destinations and the must-have travel experiences for the year ahead. Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2023 recommends locations around five categories: food, journeying, connecting, learning and unwinding.
Boise was named a top destination in the “Connect” category, aptly named for travelers looking to connect with distinctive local scenes. Boise is one of six destinations in the category, alongside Alaska; Albania; Accra, Ghana; Sydney, Australia and Guyana.
“From our vibrant downtown to unique neighborhoods, we’re a community committed to protecting our open space and clean river, supporting our local businesses, artists, restaurateurs, brewers and winemakers, and growing opportunity through innovation and climate action. We look forward to welcoming you to Boise, a city for everyone, and are sure you’ll feel as we do every day: that there’s no place like Boise because of the connectedness we feel to each other and this special place.” – Mayor Lauren McLean, City of Boise
“It’s a tremendous honor to have Lonely Planet recognize Boise as a unique place of connection. There’s no shortage of ways for visitors to connect with Boise, from connecting on the trails with nature, our history and culture to connecting with one another over good food and drink. Our local scene stands out not just at a domestic level, but globally. This is well-earned and something we can all be proud of in Boise.” – Carrie Westergard, executive director, Visit Boise (Boise Convention & Visitors Bureau)
Each year, Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel list starts with nominations from Lonely Planet’s vast community of staff, writers, bloggers, publishing partners and more. The nominations are then whittled down by its panel of travel experts to just 30 destinations. Each is chosen for its topicality, unique experiences, ‘wow’ factor and its ongoing commitment to sustainability, community and diversity.
