First Thursday: “Art and Mind” exhibit featuring artist Jaki Katz at Art Source Gallery
Art & Mind by Jaki Katz
“We have art so that we shall not die from reality.” This quote by Friedrich Nietzche inspired the images for Jaki Katz’s upcoming multimedia show, Art and Mind, opening June 6, at Art Source Gallery. Jaki transforms the horrors that haunt her into beautiful, thought provoking artwork. “This is not only essential for my own well being, but re-tells these troubling stories to the world in a much more palatable way,” Jaki explains. Art and Mind showcases Jaki’s dynamic storytelling, sense of humor, and vivid use of color and imaginative imagery in paintings, sculptures and mixed media.
Jaki Katz is a painter, designer and a sculptor whose talents have earned her a stellar reputation and many awards over her 35-year career. Jaki’s work in the medallic arts in particular, has garnered her significant acclaim, and she has sculpted over one thousand medals, including the United Nations Peacekeeping medal, the Century IV medal for the City of Philadelphia and coins of the realm for any foreign nations.
Jaki’s whimsical imagination has also earned her an international reputation as a sculptor of fine collectibles. She has created many sculptures for The Franklin Mint, Noble of Germany, the Hamilton Collection and other sculpture houses.
