SUMMARY:Glocal Impact: From Idaho and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening with Dr. Sydney Freeman, Jr., an international award-winning researcher at the University of Idaho, 2024 United Nations Human Rights Fellow, and Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (FRHISTS) in the United Kingdom. Dr. Freeman will explore the concept of “glocal”—the interconnectedness of local and global histories and influence—focusing on Idaho’s rich Black history and sharing three key lessons on how to create lasting impact. This engaging presentation, in celebration of Black History Month, will be followed by a moderated discussion with Former Idaho State Legislator Cherie Buckner-Webb and will conclude with an interactive Q&A session.\nThe event will kick off with a social hour from 5-6PM, featuring light appetizers, a cash bar, and the opportunity to mingle with fellow attendees. Co-hosted with the Erma Hayman House, the social hour will include a fun trivia activity, door prizes from Downtown Boise Association and the Idaho State Museum, and a pop-up exhibit showcasing local histories!\nThis is a unique opportunity to learn from Dr. Freeman about how to build influence and make an impact in your community. Don’t miss the chance to deepen your understanding of Black history in Idaho and celebrate the legacies that continue to shape our communities today!\nTickets are $5 or free for students with Student ID. Preregistration encouraged, but walkups are welcome.\nFor more information, visit history.idaho.gov/events.\n
